Sherwood Forest
Will and Roy are running through the forest with several of Gisborne's men, on horseback, in hot pursuit. Roy passes Robin who winks at him.
Gisborne's men have been led into a trap the first two riders are clothes-lined by a rope strung across the path. The second two riders are knocked from their mounts when they slow down to see about their comrades. Gisborne arrives on the scene just in time to see Robin, Much, Allan, and Will riding away on his horses.
~
Back at the camp, the gang is excited about the plan they've just pulled off. Everyone his hugging and shaking hands in celebration. However, when Much approaches Roy, he is left hanging. This hurts Much's feelings and he steps away to compose himself. Robin notices and chides Much for being wounded so easily.
Roy tells Much to take the warhorse if he's going to cry about it. Much denies crying over anything, but the sound of crying can clearly be heard. Everyone hears it then and realize it is not Much and they go in search of the source.
Will and Much uncover a baby hidden in the leaves. Roy wants to leave the squalling bundle of joy where they found it, but Much is outraged. In the meantime, Robin has taken the baby who finally quiets down.
Allan remarks the baby's lucky to be alive considering all hoof prints in the ground. This alerts Robin and when he inspects one of the hoof prints, he finds it to be marked. He comments that Gisborne is not the fool he looks like.
They realize too late that they have been tracked. Gisborne and his men emerge from the trees.
A sword fight ensues and the gang seems to be getting the best of Gisborne's men. Until Gisborne heaves a cudgel at Robin who happens to still be holding the baby.
Roy pushes Robin out of harm's way and ends up taking a blow to the face himself. A pair of Gisborne's men heave an unconscious Roy onto a horse and take off. Gisborne follows.
~
The gang explains to John what has happened. Robin apologizes and John says, "We go to Nottingham."

Nottingham Castle
The sheriff tells the Council of Nobles that the pestilence in the village of Clun is over, but that the quarantine will continue to remain in effect. Marian points out that leaving people to starve to death is barbaric. The sheriff wants the village for his garrison.
~
Down in the dungeon, Roy continues to give only name, rank, and serial number despite Gisborne's ministrations.
The sheriff shows up and puts an end to the abuse. Gisborne seems adamant that the prisoner won't break unless he's beaten. The sheriff instructs Gisborne to see if Roy has any relatives in Nottingham.
As Gisborne leaves, a kitchen maid arrives. Roy sees her smile at Gisborne and overhears her remark to him that he's back quickly and asks if "he" cried. Gisborne says nothing and stalks off.
When the maid approaches Roy's cell with a cup, he asks why she smiled at "him" (Gisborne) like that. The maid says that Gisborne has a side he cannot show, that she "has position and would be his wife."
"He tell ya that, did he?" Roy scoffs. The maid confesses that she is the mother of Gisborne's baby. When Roy shows her his bruises, she denies that Gisborne would hurt her child. She reveals that Gisborne has taken her baby to the abbey at Kirklees. Roy realizes that the baby the gang found is Annie and Gisborne's love child a child Gisborne left to die in the forest.
~
Meanwhile, back in the forest, the gang makes plans to rescue Roy.
~
When Annie brings another tray to Roy, he asks the baby's name. She finally tells him her baby's name is Seth. When he describes the baby a few weeks old and wrapped in a blanket she asks if Roy met them on the road to the abbey. Roy says, "Sort of."
Gisborne arrives, sending Annie skedaddling. Gisborne tells Roy that the sheriff wants to see him.
~
Allan questions the wisdom of trying to save Roy when the castle seems to be more heavily guarded than usual. Robin quotes a verse from the Qur'an in order to try inspiring his troops.
~
Roy is brought to the sheriff's chambers where the sheriff asks Roy a favor kill Robin Hood. Roy replies that he'd sooner kill his own mother.
Much to Roy's shock, his mother is brought in. She is completely stunned to see him. She thought him dead all this time. The sheriff tells Roy that if he fails to kill Robin, his mother will hang at sunrise.
Roy is sent on his way, while being "chased" by several soldiers. When he reaches the tree line the soldiers break off and return to the castle. The gang is just inside the tree line preparing to begin the rescue.
Once the gang has safely reached the midst of the forest, the men congratulate Roy on his great escape. Robin passes the crying baby off to Much who takes a few steps away as he tries to quiet the baby. As he focuses on the horse Roy rode in, he panics thinking they've been tricked again. Robin checks the horses hooves, but finds only regular shoes.
Roy takes Robin aside, ostensibly to tell him about something that happened at the castle, but can't bring himself to kill Robin just yet. He ends up telling Robin that he knows the baby's name as he met the father who was in the dungeon for stealing bread. He falsely theorizes the mother must have abandoned it. He says the mother lives in Knighton, and suggests they take the baby home to its mother and give her some money to help care for him. Robin agrees, and he and Roy head for Knighton.

Clun Village
Lady Marian arrives at the quarantine gates of Clun Village driving a horse and cart demanding entrance into the village. The soldiers guarding the village will not let her in. Several of them move around the cart and uncover the baskets full of bread she has brought. The soldier in charge gets a little too forward but is checked by the arrival of Robin, Roy, and baby Seth.
Marian is none too pleased to see them. Robin dismounts his horse, bundle of squalling joy in his arms, and asks if she's having any trouble.
"Nothing I can't handle," she replies. As she explains the situation, Robin relieves the soldiers of their weapons and has Roy tie them up.
Robin mocks her plan to sweet-talk the guards.
"Oh, and you have a better one?" she asks.
Robin and Roy find a high spot above Clun Village and begin sending bread over the gate via arrow. Marian thinks it a terrible waste of arrows, but Robin thinks it great fun. A moment later, Robin receives a bow shot to the back of his left arm as another squad of soldiers rounds the bend.
Robin and Roy slide down the hill and mount their horses. Robin has retrieved the baby from Marian and tells Roy they need to split up. Eventually Robin misdirects his pursuers by jumping off his horse and rolling into some underbrush. The soldiers gallop past.
Roy startles Robin when he finds them, dagger in hand. But just as Roy determines to stab Robin, Marian arrives. She takes them to an unnamed village and asks one of the women for help making it very clear that they were never there.
Inside the woman's hut, the baby wails and Marian sews up Robin's arrow wound. She is stunned by the large ugly scar from the wound he received in the Holy Land. While she cleans and sews none too gently Robin asks if she had suitors while he was gone. She neither confirms nor denies.
"Well, it is surprising you are not married," he says.
"It is. And yet when one considers that marriage requires a man, perhaps not."
The village woman comes around the side of her hut, finding Roy spying on Marian and Robin. She enters her home with a pitcher of milk for the baby and some cheese for the mother. When Marian makes it clear that the child is not hers and Robin's, a wistful expression crosses Robin's face as he looks at her. In the awkward silence, they hear Much calling for Robin. Robin and the village woman go outside. Marian takes the baby in her arms.
Robin re-enters the hut, and glances wishfully at Marian and the baby. He asks if she can take the baby as its mother lives in Knighton. They exchange some hurtful words and Marian thrusts the baby into Robin's arms and storms out. She gets into her wagon and leaves.
When Robin comes outside, the village woman invites them to stay the night due to a coming storm. Roy protests, but he is overruled.

Knighton Hall
When Marian arrives at home, her father exits the house with a half-worried/half-angry look. Then Gisborne steps out the door and Marian sees the sheriff pacing inside their home.
The sheriff is displeased that it has become known that the pestilence is gone from Clun Village. Marian will have to be punished for her outspokenness. He also remarks that he's heard and ignored suggestions that she's been consorting with Robin Hood that would be unforgivable.
~
The following day, Marian is led into the castle square and onto the gallows where her hair is chopped off.
~
Back at the village hut, all the men but Roy sleep. The thunder rumbles and the rain pours, and Robin dreams of the attack on the king in the Holy Land. He wakes up startled, and finds Roy above him with the dagger ready to be plunged into his chest.
Robin and Roy struggle and the ensuing fight wakes up everyone else. Much, thinking that Robin is still dreaming, screams for him to wake up.
Robin can't believe Roy would do such a thing, especially after they rescued him.
"I've got to kill him," Roy screams from the ground.
When John is told that Roy tried to kill Robin, he is also outraged. "You were like my son!" he yells, and then slugs Roy, and continues to try to attack him. Will, Much, and Robin hold him back. But Roy begs to be killed.
When they finally get John to calm down and leave Roy alone, Robin asks Roy what he's done. Roy breaks down like a baby and tells them the sheriff has his mother. Robin concludes that she will be killed if Roy doesn't kill Robin first.
Robin asks about the story about the child's mother. Roy reveals that Gisborne is the father and a kitchen girl is the mother who believes her baby was taken to the abbey to be raised.
As the storm continues to roll and rumble overhead, Robin says they have two mothers to rescue from the castle before sunrise. Roy is amazed that he's not being killed and that Robin would still rescue his mother.

Nottingham Castle
The gang sneaks into the castle.
Allan goes into the kitchen and finds Annie, handing her the small coverlet that had been wrapped around her baby.
The rest of the gang breaks into the dungeon looking for Roy's mother, but she is nowhere to be found. The sheriff, Gisborne, and several soldiers do show up, however.
Out in the castle square, Roy's mother is being led to the gallows while the gang is led outside to watch.
Just after the noose is placed around Roy's mother's neck, Gisborne is grabbed and held at dagger point by Annie.
"Murderers," she hollers. She reveals what Gisborne has done.
Gisborne slams her arm holding the dagger and then slugs her in the face. It is the distraction the gang needs to spring into action. While the gang takes on the soldiers, Allan goes after Gisborne who is all over Annie.
Robin jumps onto the gallows and pulls the noose from Roy's mother's neck. John helps her jump to the ground.
"To the horses," screams Robin and the gang all start moving toward the portcullis.
All but Roy who is stuck up on the castle steps fighting soldiers. Until the sheriff grabs Roy and holds a knife to his neck. "Locksley!"
Everyone stops and looks.
The sheriff threatens to kill Roy if anyone leaves.
Robin threatens to kill the sheriff.
But the sheriff calls him on it.
Roy takes matters into his own hands by head-butting the sheriff. He yanks his tag from his neck and throws it at John. He tells them run, for his mother and for the baby. He plasters himself against the castle doors as the soldiers all stab him. "My name is Royston White! I fight for Robin Hood and King Richard!" he calls with his last breaths.
With saddened last glances the gang takes off as the soldiers come after them.
~
The gang, along with Roy's mother, Annie, and baby Seth, stand around a roaring fire. Eventually, John places Roy's weapon into the flames and says, "Him I liked." Roy's mother drops a red rose into the fire.
~
The following day, Marian brings a cart and driver into the forest. Robin notices her hair right away. She says it was a nuisance to wash.
The gang puts Annie and Seth into the cart. Before sending them on their way, Will gives Annie a gift for Seth.
Marian heads back home, while Robin follows the gang into the forest.
~
Around the bend, Annie opens the gift a tiny bow and small quiver of arrows.
